When purchasing safety light curtain, there are many customers ask if it need to be equipped with a controller. It depend on the application and the voltage of equipment.

The working voltage of most safety light curtain is DC14-24V, and transistor output (NPN/ PNP), some will be relay output according to customer request. And relay output is either equipped with a controller, or there is a small relay inside the light curtain, the actual principle is still the same. Transistor output can directly control PLC or relay.

So for automation equipment with PLC, the safety light curtain itself can be directly controlled, and there is no need for a controller. For old machines without PLC and DC24V voltage to drive the safety light curtain, it is better to equipped with a controller, which is more convenient and simple to use.
